Payment to Charon is the interpretation traditionally given to coins uncovered in antique tombs. Although the coins of the cemetery of Emporiae are known since their publication in 1955 by M. Almagro Basch and have appeared in other research, they have never been the object of numismatic study. This study therefore describes, discusses and offers a series of interpretations of these coins with special emphasis on the countermarked examples found in tombs.
